Bedroom Desk with Twin Drawer Units

A customer in Ballyclare contacted us to assemble a new bedroom desk featuring two drawer chests positioned on either side of a large desktop.

The customer wanted a practical workspace with plenty of storage but needed the furniture assembled correctly, securely and without the stress of working through complicated flat pack instructions.

Bedroom desk with two five drawer storage units
Outcome
Fully assembled, levelled and ready to use

The Challenge

This style of desk involves several individual components, including two multi drawer units and a long desktop. Each drawer had to be assembled and aligned carefully so that it opened smoothly, while both drawer chests needed to be level and positioned correctly to support the desktop.

As the desk was being installed in a bedroom, care was also required to protect the flooring, walls and surrounding furniture during the assembly.

Our Solution

We unpacked and checked all components before beginning the build. Each drawer chest was assembled separately, with the runners, drawer fronts and fixings carefully fitted and adjusted.

Once both units were complete, they were positioned at the correct distance apart and checked to ensure they were stable and level. The desktop was then placed and secured, creating a spacious and sturdy bedroom workstation.

All packaging and assembly materials were kept organised throughout the job, leaving the room clean and ready to use.

The Result

The finished desk provided the customer with:

  • A large, practical working surface
  • Ten drawers for organised bedroom or office storage
  • A clean, modern appearance
  • A stable and professionally assembled workspace
  • No leftover parts, uneven drawers or assembly hassle

The completed unit fitted neatly into the bedroom and gave the customer a stylish space for working, studying or getting ready.

Professional flat pack assembly helps ensure larger furniture is built safely, correctly and with minimal disruption to your home.

“Brilliant service from start to finish. My new desk and both sets of drawers were assembled quickly, securely and with great attention to detail. Everything was left clean and tidy, and the finished desk looks perfect in my bedroom. I’m delighted with the result and would definitely recommend the service to anyone needing flat pack furniture assembled.”

Completed light oak effect home office desk with cupboard and drawers assembled by McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly in Ballyclare

Creating a Practical Home Office for Lindsay M.

Lindsay M. contacted us for help assembling a new flat pack desk for her home office in Ballyclare. The desk featured a light oak effect finish, a spacious worktop, a storage cupboard and a set of drawers, ideal for keeping her workspace organised without taking up too much room.

Although the finished desk had a clean and simple appearance, the number of panels, drawer components, fixings and alignment points made it a fairly time consuming build. Lindsay wanted the desk assembled correctly, securely and without the frustration of working through complicated instructions herself.

Completed in one visit and ready to use

The Assembly

We carefully unpacked and checked each component before beginning the build. The cupboard section and drawer unit were assembled separately, ensuring that the doors, drawer runners and front panels were properly aligned.

Once the two storage sections were secure, the desktop was fitted and levelled to create a stable working surface. We also checked every fixing, adjusted the cupboard door and drawers, and made sure the finished desk sat evenly on the floor.

All packaging and assembly materials were gathered together afterwards, leaving Lindsay with a tidy room and a desk ready to use.

The Result

The completed desk gave Lindsay a dedicated and practical workspace with plenty of storage for stationery, paperwork and home office equipment. The light wood finish also complemented the room, creating a bright and uncluttered appearance.

The entire job was completed in one visit, saving Lindsay several hours of assembly and allowing her to start using her new home office straight away.

“I’m delighted with how the desk turned out. There were far more pieces than I expected, especially with all the drawers, but everything was assembled neatly and feels really solid. The door and drawers line up perfectly, and Mark took away the left over rubbish. It saved me a full evening of stress and I was able to start using my new office straight away. I’d recommend McKnight's to anyone in the Ballyclare area.”

About McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly

Mark McKnight beside a white chest of drawers assembled by McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly in Ballyclare

Hi, I’m Mark McKnight, the person behind this local flat pack assembly service in Ballyclare.

I started the business because I genuinely enjoy assembling furniture and turning a collection of panels, fittings and instructions into something practical and ready to use. I know flat pack furniture can be time consuming and frustrating, so my aim is to make the process easier for my customers.

My experience began with hands on DIY projects in my own home, including IKEA wardrobes, bedside tables, chests of drawers, TV cabinets and office desks. I have also completed assembly projects for customers, with examples available in my case studies.

I take a patient and methodical approach to every job. I organise the components, follow the instructions carefully and check each stage to make sure the furniture is assembled neatly and securely.

I understand that inviting someone into your home requires trust. I work tidily, treat your property with respect and keep communication clear throughout the booking.

As a local one person service, I focus on compact and manageable furniture that can be assembled safely by one person. Every item is checked before the booking is confirmed.

My goal is to provide a friendly and dependable service that saves you time and leaves you with furniture that is ready to enjoy.

How to Book McKnight’s Furniture Building Service

Booking your flat pack assembly is simple and straightforward. Just send me the product link, the number of items and your postcode, and I will check that the furniture is suitable for one person assembly. Once reviewed, I will provide a clear fixed quote and confirm an appointment that works for you.

Send Your Furniture Details

Please provide:

  • Your name and contact number
  • Your postcode
  • A retailer link to each item
  • The product name or product code
  • The number of items
  • Photographs if a product link is unavailable
  • Your preferred appointment days
  • Details of stairs, restricted access or parking
  • Whether the furniture is already in the room where it will be assembled

The product link is particularly important because it allows me to check the dimensions, number of boxes, assembly instructions and whether the manufacturer requires two people.

Please send the product link for every item you would like assembled. This allows me to check that the furniture is suitable for one person assembly and provide an accurate quote.

Receive a Fixed Quote

I will review the furniture and confirm:

  • Whether I can accept the job
  • The fixed price
  • What is included
  • Any agreed additional charges
  • The estimated length of the appointment
  • The available appointment dates

You will receive a clear, itemised fixed quote so you know the total before work begins.

Receiving a quote does not reserve an appointment. Your booking is confirmed once you accept the quote and we agree the date and time.

Confirm the Appointment

Once you accept the quote, I will send written confirmation containing:

  • The appointment date
  • An arrival time or reasonable arrival window
  • Your address
  • The furniture being assembled
  • The agreed price
  • The accepted payment methods

  • Clear enough floor space for the assembly
  • Remove fragile or valuable items from the working area
  • Mention stairs or access difficulties in advance
  • Arrange suitable parking where necessary

On the day:

  • I arrive with the tools needed for the agreed assembly
  • I check the boxes and components before beginning
  • I follow the manufacturer’s instructions

Packaging removal is not included unless agreed in advance. Cardboard and polystyrene disposal may require extra time, vehicle space and an additional charge.

Pricing and Cancellation Policy

Clear Fixed Pricing

All bookings are priced individually based on the furniture being assembled, the number of items and the expected time required. Please send the product link, quantity and your postcode so I can review the job and provide a clear fixed quote before your appointment is confirmed.

Prices start from a minimum booking charge of £40. This covers local travel, preparation, tools and assembly time. Larger items, more complex furniture and bookings involving several items will be quoted separately.

The agreed price covers the furniture listed in your quote. Any additional items requested during the appointment may require a revised price and can only be accepted if there is enough time and they are suitable for one person assembly.

What Is Included

Your quote includes:

  • Assembly of the agreed furniture
  • Standard tools required for the job
  • Checking and organising the supplied components
  • Basic adjustment of doors and drawers
  • A tidy working area after assembly
  • Packaging placed neatly together

Furniture delivery, moving heavy boxes, dismantling existing furniture, wall mounting, repairs, replacement parts and packaging disposal are not included unless agreed beforehand.

Missing or Damaged Parts

Please make sure all boxes have arrived before the appointment. If parts are missing, damaged or incorrect, I may be unable to complete the assembly.

Any return visit required after replacement parts arrive will need to be arranged separately and may require a new quote.

Payment

Payment is due when the assembly is complete and can be made by cash or bank transfer while I am onsite.

Cancellations and Rearrangements

Plans can change, so please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment. At least 24 hours notice is appreciated wherever possible.

As I am self employed, late cancellations and missed appointments can mean losing valuable working time and income. Please give as much notice as possible so I can offer the appointment to another customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question before booking? You will find answers below to some of the most common questions about the furniture I assemble, pricing, preparation, payment and what to expect on the day. If you cannot find the information you need, please get in touch and I will be happy to help.

What furniture can you assemble?

I assemble a wide range of compact and manageable flat pack furniture, including desks, office chairs, bedside tables, chests of drawers, TV cabinets, bookcases, cube storage, dining chairs, small tables, shoe storage and selected garden furniture.

Every item is checked before a booking is confirmed to make sure it can be assembled safely by one person.

Are there any items you do not assemble?

As this is a one person service, I cannot accept furniture that requires two or more people to assemble safely.

This usually includes large wardrobes, sliding door wardrobes, bunk beds, loft beds, ottoman beds, very large tables, sofas, sheds, gazebos, trampolines and large outdoor structures.

I also cannot accept items with very heavy glass, stone or ceramic components.

Can you assemble wardrobes?

Large wardrobes and any wardrobe requiring two people are not accepted.

Smaller and more manageable wardrobes may be considered after I have checked the product link, dimensions and manufacturer instructions.

Although I have assembled IKEA wardrobes as part of my own DIY experience, customer items must still be suitable for safe one person assembly.

How do I request a quote?

Please send me:

  • The product link
  • The product name or code
  • The number of items
  • Your postcode
  • Your preferred appointment days
  • Details of any stairs, parking restrictions or access difficulties

If a product link is unavailable, clear photographs of the furniture, packaging and instructions may be accepted.

Why do you need the product link?

The product link allows me to check the furniture dimensions, number of boxes, assembly instructions and whether the manufacturer recommends two person assembly.

It also helps me provide a more accurate fixed quote.

How much does assembly cost?

Prices start from a minimum booking charge of £40.

Every job is priced individually based on the furniture, the number of items, the expected assembly time and the level of complexity.

You will receive a clear fixed quote before your appointment is confirmed.

What does the minimum booking charge include?

The minimum booking charge helps cover local travel, preparation, tools and assembly time.

It applies even when the item itself is small, as time is still required to arrange the booking, travel to the property and complete the work carefully.

Are there discounts for several items?

When several suitable items are assembled during the same visit, I can provide one combined quote.

This may offer better value than arranging separate appointments because the travel and preparation only take place once.

Can I add more furniture on the day?

Additional items may be accepted if there is enough time and they are suitable for one person assembly.

Please send details of every item before the appointment wherever possible. Items that were not included in the original quote may require an additional charge.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Payment is due once the agreed assembly work has been completed.

You can pay by cash or bank transfer while I am onsite.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

A deposit is not normally required for standard local bookings.

For larger bookings involving several items, any payment arrangements will be confirmed before the appointment.

Which areas do you cover?

I currently provide flat pack assembly in:

  • Ballyclare
  • Burnside
  • Doagh
  • Parkgate
  • Templepatrick
  • Ballyrobert
  • Straid
  • Ballynure
  • Ballyeaston

Please send your postcode when requesting a quote so I can confirm that your address is within the current service area.

Do I need to move the boxes before you arrive?

Where possible, the unopened boxes should be placed in the room where the finished furniture will be used.

This is especially important for heavier or awkward boxes, as carrying large items around the property is not included in the standard assembly service.

Please mention stairs or difficult access when requesting your quote.

How should I prepare the room?

Please clear enough floor space for the furniture and its components to be laid out safely.

Remove fragile or valuable belongings from the working area and make sure there is a clear route into the room.

Children and pets should be kept away from the assembly area while work is taking place.

Do all the boxes need to be delivered before the appointment?

Yes. Please make sure every box for the furniture has arrived before the appointment.

Some products are delivered in several separate packages, and assembly may not be possible if one of them is missing.

What happens if parts are missing or damaged?

I will do my best to identify any missing, damaged or incorrect parts during the assembly.

However, I cannot supply replacement components or guarantee completion when the furniture has been delivered with missing or faulty parts.

A return visit after replacement parts arrive will need to be arranged separately and may require a new quote.

Do you repair damaged furniture?

The service is for assembling new flat pack furniture.

Minor adjustments may sometimes be possible, but repairs to damaged furniture are not included unless they have been discussed and agreed before the appointment.

Do you dismantle old furniture?

Dismantling existing furniture is not included in the standard assembly quote.

It may be considered separately if the item is suitable and details are provided before the booking is confirmed.

Do you remove the packaging?

Packaging removal is not included.

Once the assembly is complete, cardboard, plastic and other packaging will be placed neatly together for you to dispose of or recycle.

Do you attach furniture to the wall?

Wall mounting and wall fixing are not included in the standard assembly service.

Some furniture comes with an anti tip fitting and the manufacturer may recommend that it is secured to the wall. Where this is required, it is the customer’s responsibility to arrange suitable installation unless it has been agreed with me beforehand.

Furniture should not be used in a way that goes against the manufacturer’s safety instructions.

Do you provide the tools?

Yes. I bring the standard tools needed to complete the agreed assembly.

Any unusual tools, specialist fittings or additional materials required for a particular product should be discussed before the appointment.

How long will the assembly take?

Assembly time depends on the item, its size, the number of components and the complexity of the instructions.

A simple chair or bedside table may take much less time than a chest of drawers or office desk.

I will provide an estimated appointment length when confirming your quote, but this is only a guide.

Will you follow the manufacturer instructions?

Yes. Furniture is assembled according to the supplied manufacturer instructions wherever possible.

Please make sure the instructions and all supplied fittings remain inside the packaging before the appointment.

Can you assemble furniture bought from IKEA?

Yes, provided the particular item is suitable for safe one person assembly.

I can also consider furniture from other retailers and manufacturers. The product is assessed based on its size, weight, complexity and instructions rather than the retailer alone.

Will you work in rented properties?

Yes, provided the tenant or customer has permission for the furniture and any related work.

As wall fixing is not included in the standard service, customers should speak to their landlord before making holes or permanent changes to the property.

What happens if I need to cancel or rearrange?

Plans can change, so please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment.

At least 24 hours notice is appreciated wherever possible.

As I am self employed, late cancellations and missed appointments can mean losing valuable working time and income. Please give as much notice as possible so I can offer the appointment to another customer.

What happens if nobody is home when you arrive?

An adult must be present to provide access to the property and approve the completed work.

Please contact me as soon as possible if you are delayed. A wasted visit means losing travel time, working time and an appointment that could have been offered to another customer.

Can I see examples of your work?

Yes. Examples of completed customer projects are available in the case studies section.

These show the types of furniture I have assembled and the care taken with each project.

How do I book?

Send me the product link, number of items and your postcode.

I will review the furniture, confirm whether it is suitable for one person assembly and provide a fixed quote. Once you accept the quote, we can agree a suitable appointment.
